Schwarzenegger Apology Not Unlike Clinton'sBy States' Liberty Party, October 4, 2003 Gubernatorial candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger took a page from the Clinton play-book when he gave his apology for sexually harassing women. Remembering Clinton's finger-wagging admission: "I did not have sex with that woman", many pundits are saying that Schwarzenegger is different than Clinton, quickly acknowledging wrongdoing. Forgotten is that Clinton apologized twice for wrongdoing, each time when he saw that his candidacy or presidency was severely threatened. Arnold must have observed Clinton's carefully made responses, admitting to nothing and apologizing for it. Effectively he said he was sorry for those things which they can prove or that people may believe, but the rest are lies made up by his political opponents, and Clinton's 1998 "mistakes were made" statement fell short of naming not only which mistakes were made, but also who had made them. Perhaps Clinton was believing that the mistake made was Monica's storing of the stained dress. Clinton's first 1992 apology made very effectively on the CBS 60 Minutes program was similarly purposely vague, Clinton calling Jennifer Flowers a liar while remarkably admitting infidelities in his marriage. His "no twelve year affair" statement may have indicated that he didn't consider his long extramarital relationship to have been an affair, or that he had counted perhaps thirteen or eleven-and-ten-months, not exactly twelve years. Schwarzenegger's apology was full, but to no one about anything. He admitted to doing the things that are provable, but insisted that most of what the women said were lies, those invariably being those things which cannot be proved. Thus he exonerated no woman at all. Any of them may be lying, and probably are, by his "candid" admission. Clinton didn't not make his second 1998 apology, in a national speech to the American people until there was unequivocal proof that he had done what he had been accused of doing. A quick reading of British journals demonstrates that Schwarzenegger has had the same Clinton problem, but right from the start. Schwarzenegger, unlike Clinton, was not discreet about his misbehavior, groping and fondling women in front of studio employees and onlookers, sometimes even with cameras rolling, in one case seen by millions of British television viewers, although the incident caught profusely on tape was luckily not shunned by the smiling British talk host. Another such incident with a different British media personality reportedly brought anger from her, but the taping was not live and the footage was never released. Schwarzenegger, therefore, made his apology in about the same vein as Clinton's two apologies, with his head squarely on the chopping block, using generalities, admitting to nothing, while implying that his accuser or accusers were probably lying, or somewhat lying. A legitimate apology could have been made directly to Anna Richardson who was repeatedly fondled by the actor just three years ago in front of her studio crew, and identified by name in the :Los Angeles Times story, but the only genuine apology Schwarzenegger could give to the numerous women would be such a statement and a withdrawal from the race. Schwarzenegger's apology was damage control, not an apology. Related stories:Arnold the Clinton BarbarianStates' Liberty Party needs donations to continue providing these kinds of articles.
