The young quite expectedly question why one should abstain from behaviors
now deemed proper by the established government and it's institutions.
Morals and Church History
Augustine of Hippo, a 4th century Christian Church authority, taught perfect
sexual morality and it continues to be a longstanding doctrine and
cornerstone of the Catholic Church. In the last 70 years under intense
public pressure, the Church revised their long held stand and lost the key
element in Augustine's message.
This has, at least in part, resulted in an out-of-control increase in unwanted
pregnancies, confusion over sexual orientation, and has led to complaints of
hypocrisy by the Church.
You
hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly
to take the speck out of your brother's eye.”
Christianity. Matthew 7.1-5
If sex may be for no greater purpose than a display of love and unity, then
pre-marital sex, adultery, and homosexuality are good. In truth,
such behaviors bring unwanted children into the world, create jealousies,
break-up of marriage, and confusion over sexual identity. Central
figures in religion warned of lack of discipline and of the vanity in
seeking pleasures of the flesh.
Augustine taught that a desire for child must be foremost in the mind of both
the man and woman, and without it the act is illegal. Augustine wanted to see that good, mindful children were raised, and
saw this was best ensured by
the devotion of two loving parents, but those parents seeking not a child but
immediate pleasures will not have the child first in min
d, will fail to bond a
strong family union, and may harbor resentments against both mate and child.
This is the "original sin" handed down from generation through generation that
destroys the unity of family as every child is "conceived in sin", brought into the world in an imperfect separated state.
An adherence to ancient religious principles will eliminate the problems and
controversies of abortion, unwanted children, divorce, and confusion over sexual
orientation.
