Chapter 11 – Traditional Christian Moral Values

The law of the jungle gave us “Herculean” man, where only the fast, strong, or cunning survive. Religion is it’s counterpart, a societal organizing by the higher mind, where rules and regulations are laid out for the betterment of the society, and ultimately for the individual.  True religion will perfectly balance individual freedom and community cooperation, with actions of the individual unerringly focusing on the general good.

Religion gave us our laws of government, symbolized in our history by the ten commandments of the Bible.  Practically no one will argue against the traditional religious values of non-violence, honesty, moderation and self-control, excepting when it spills into the realm of sexual moral values.

Traditional Christian moral values focus on life itself.  Sexual intercourse is the initiating of a new life.  Misuse of this life’s gift is an excess and failure of self-control.  Man may deviate from the simple religious truth and fail to uphold the best of tradition, but he should not alter his ideals and not tear down his pillars of moral values and his foundation of religious principles, for he otherwise will have thrown away his moral compass and will lose direction.  Therefore, a person of religion must reject deviate sexual practices, to include premarital sex, adultery, homosexuality and pornography, in principle, at the least, and birth control must be viewed as inherently wrong even among those that will not abide by the ancient law.
