Chapter 14 – Practical Application

An explaining of religious principles can be less difficult than is an applying of those principles, particularly for young and unmarried adults and others that have become comfortable with the modern age of birth control and limited family size.   Self-control and moderation are attributes of religion but self-denial is not.

There may be no value in abstaining from an activity with there being absent a good understanding of the reasoning for the deprivation.  A loss by the church and by parents of the purpose for engaging only in procreative sexual activity is what brought about the “sexual revolution” and the reverse values which then led to a further breakdown and loss of religious principles.  The purpose for the strict lesson in self-control must be paramount and unmistakable.

For this reason, I do believe that unwed partners should strictly adhere to the procreative principles of religion, but a married partner may find it unwise to deprive the other of accepted social behavior that he may crave.  Similarly, when there remains doubt, no fear of a creating of an abominable “sin” should limit the expressing of genuine feelings among a married couple or pair with a longstanding relationship.

On the other hand, societal pressure and demands that “performance” is central to a relationship may be laughed off.  The requirement for sexual prowess is a foolish and unnecessary requirement that has no doubt brought about unwarranted failure to many a marriage or relationship.

The absolute rule which a pair should abide by is with the question “Might this bring harm to a yet unborn child or may our sxample bring others to choose the wrong path?  If “no” is the answer to the queries then God will not likely bring about condemnation, but no one should fool themselves either: the path to life will be secured by strict adherence to sound principles.
