Seven Year Old Creates an Establishment of Religion with Christmas BookIn December 2001, while the press slept, little 7 year old Laura Greska established a national religion in her second grade class, violating the the First Amendment of the Constitution, which prohibits Congress from creating an establishment of religion. Fortunately, the school learned of the misdeed and interceded, sparing Laura's classmates from losing their right to practice their religion free from government interference. Laura's mistake was to bring a book titled "The First Christmas" to school in response to the teacher's request that the children bring a book to school about Christmas. Laura's book contained a story about the birth of Jesus Christ, and she had intended to read it to the other kids. The Supreme Court of the United States has barred similar activities, such as a public prayer at after school football games, whenever they are condoned or planned by the school. The Court, in probability, would find Laura's book technically legal, because the school didn't authorize her to bring it (and she therefore is not an agent of the state).` Laura's parents are suing the school. |
